What a series of fantastic results over the last week -
Hawaii Ironman at Kona
Miranda Carefree (Aus) won her second Hawaii Ironman on Sunday with a course record time of 8:53.14 (58:50; 4:58.20 and a record run 2:50.38). Miranda's win continues Australia's success at Hawaii starting with Michellie Jones 2006, Chris McCormack 2007 and 2010, Craig Alexander 2008, 2009 and 2011, Miranda for the first time in 2010 and Pete Jacobs 2012.
In the 2013 Mens event Fred Van Lierde (Bel) won in 8:12.29 (51:02; 4:25.35; 2:51.18) with Australian Luke McKenzie (who lead for a lot of the run) 2nd in 8:15.19.
Lisa Weightman (Aus) broke the course record by over six minutes in the Women's event 2:26.05 - also a personal best by 2 minutes and fifth fatest time by an Australian Woman. The Men's winner Dominic Ondoro (Kenya) also set a new course record of 2:10.47.
Steve Monaghetti (no not the hack that competes in our club tri - and author of this article!) set a world record for 51 year olds of 31.26 for the 10 kms. Still goes alright!!!
And from the the UK
Club coach Jac Tremayne ran the Chester Marathon in the UK last week and finished 11th in her age group with a 3:51.13. Another great time by Jac who will be home in time to be at club race this weekend.
